Visual Communication Designer/Graphic Artist Dublin, OH

Visual Communication Designer/Graphic Artist

Full Time • Dublin, OH

Position Description

The role of the Visual Communication Designer/Graphic Artist is to bring an energetic and illustrative graphic approach to museum and entertainment brands, exhibit structure and environmental design, and to custom character design. The Visual Communication Designer/Graphic Artist works collaboratively with teams to bring visual themes, stories, and concepts to life. Success in this position is seen through one’s ability to spark profound emotional guest reactions through 2D design. A majority of the work happens in the concept and schematic phases of projects, but for continuity, work can stretch into the DD and implementation phases.  This means the right candidate will excel in a collaborative environment working with other designers but also project managers, engineers and more on any given project.

Skill Requirements

  • Ability to tell stories through bold, yet simple, environmental graphic statements
  • Enjoys the design process of iteration and investigation as much as the final product
  • Ability to develop a “cast of characters” with scaled 2D graphic elevations of 3D spaces
  • Ability to generate sets of graphic patterns and textures for design extrapolation across entire spaces
  • Ability to create custom vector type design and elements
  • Ability to develop clever, witty or playful nomenclature
  • Ability to create modern or stylized murals for environments and large gallery surfaces
  • Ability to develop stylized vector character design with emotional expressions
  • Innate understanding of hierarchy, proportion, white space and balance in design
  • Ability to use color in subtle, sophisticated, clever and unexpected ways
  • Ability, and desire, to explore scale and composition in dramatic and unexpected ways
  • Ability to “riff” on multiple themes and art directions, leaving personal taste aside
  • Collaborative in a team environment
  • Ability to turn around quick ideation in a fast-paced environment
  • High degree of competency working in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop

To be considered, we request applicants please provide a link to their portfolio/work samples. A competitive candidate will have a strong, versatile portfolio with an elevated sense of design, color and typography. Portfolio should demonstrate the skills required to achieve most (preferably all) of the abilities described above.
